On the west bank of the Nile, across from the town of Luxor, are the tombs and mortuary temples of Thebes. The Valley of the Kings is hidden in the hills on the edge of the desert, with the town of Gurneh close to hand. Hatshepsut's famous temple, Deir el-Bahri , sits at the foot of a nearby hill. The Colossus of Memnos guard the road near the Medinet Habu temple. Behind one hill is the ancient worker's village Deir el-Medina, with the worker's tombs bug into the hill behind the village. These tombs, although much smaller than those of royalty, are graceful and delicate, with detail of the daily lives of the workers and their supervisors.
