Medinet Habu is the mortuary temple of Ramses III, and was largely built during his reign. An earlier temple built by Hatshepsut and Thutmose III sits near the entrance. The walls depict Ramses III's many military victories, including the first recorded naval battle against the mysterious Sea Peoples. One rather gruesome wall shows Ramses being presented with the cut hands, heads, and other body parts of captives while his scribes record the magnitude of the victory.
