Tarangire to Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Conservation AreaOur last morning in Tarangire was warm and dry, and we enjoyed a short drive to the west to exit the park and make our way to Lake Manyara. This small national park is known for a hot spring that feeds into the large lake, abundant bird life, and the famed tree-climbing lions. While there are other lions who happen to climb trees, these are of note partially as there are no leopard in this park and therefore they have full rights to feline tree-climbing. Although a small park, we enjoyed the wetter environment and the many beautiful birds, including two kinds of pelicans, flamingos, and heron. After driving through Manyara, we continued heading west to the Ngorongoro conservation area. The parks are almost contiguous, just enough space between them to ensure travel on bumpy, dusty roads and some waits to get our passes checked. As we entered the Ngorongoro region, we were able to stop at a lookout to see the entire, amazing crater. A volcanic caldera, it looks stamped out of the plain, a gigantic pothole filled with wildlife.
