Tarangire National ParkOur morning started with a close encounter of the leonine kind. There was a pride, including a large male with a meal of buffalo in front of him, and two rather annoyed lionesses prowling around some meters away. The lionesses seemed to be perturbed that they weren’t able to enjoy the spoils of the hunt, wandering and growling. They walked right by us, and then by a small group of zebra. Fortunately they didn’t opt for a striped meal. Not far away there was a group of eight hyena (a chortle?), perhaps waiting their turn. Further along, we were treated to the somewhat comic sight of an ostrich dating game. The male ostrich had the somewhat reddish neck and legs indicating their interest in mating. The female ostriches, however, seemed rather uninterested. You don’t often get to see a feather duster flirt. As we passed the watery area, we again saw a beautiful herd of elephant, coming down for a mid-day drink, and a group of hippos.
