StellenboschAbout 50 km west of Capetown is the wine country town of Stellenbosch, an old Dutch/Afrikaans settlement founded in 1679. A group of Huguenot refugees settled here, and the town of Franschhoek (french corner) is the site of the Huguenot Monument and museum. The vineyards of the Western Cape are notable for excellent whites and some light Shiraz reds. Unfortunately we were there in winter when the vineyards were largely closed, but it was nonetheless a lovely area.
