Bharatanatyam
A classical dance form believed to be India's
oldest continuing dance form, true to its original ancient traditions,
and still taught and practiced in the Tamil Nadu province. Training in
the art requires seven years of training to master the gestures and
poses, each of which has specific symbolism. The dance is usually
accompanied by a singer chanting the storyline of the dance, and often
by a drummer and stringed instrumental musicians as well.
