San Simeon monastery is a coptic religious center built in the 6th century on a hill on the west bank of the Nile at Aswan. The monastery was built of mud brick and is now in disarray, but the outlines of the rooms and church can still be seen. Next to the monastery is a lovely modern structure, the tomb of the Aga Khan. When riding or hiking up the hill to the monastery, there is a lovely view of modern Aswan.
