Salineras de Maras

A set of salt mines near the town of Maras.  The soil in the region has large amounts of salt in it, and an underground saline stream runs to this collection of salt pans dug into the hillside.  Here, the water is diverted into hundreds of pools, which are sealed off until evaporation leaves the salt behind. Each pool is owned by a separate family, who will collect the remaining salt and sell it.
