Intipata
The "Sun Place." This was originally
cleared in the 1940s, and then allowed to be reclaimed by the jungle in
order to protect a rare species of orchid. In recent years,
however, excavators have once again begun to clear away the
vegetation, uncovering several agricultural terraces and terrace
houses. Probably solely an agricultural station, although the site's
position means that it could have been used to relay signals from Machu
Picchu to the Urubamba River.
