Yangon

Yangon (Rangoon)

Yangon was the capital of Myanmar from 1948 to 2005, and is the largest city in Myanmar.  The city is relatively small for an Asian capital, and only about 10% of the population of Myanmar lives in the area.  The city is relatively spread out, with few high-rises and many small parks.  There isn’t a road grid system outside the waterfront, and no highways, providing a somewhat confusing system of small winding streets.  In the older commercial district, colonial-era buildings predominate, faded glory of a British outpost.  Chinese and Indian minorities have their own communities near the main markets.
